Dear Jim, I am sorry that your Dad could not have the whipple. This sounds like my Mom's story all over again, with the exception that her cancer had not spread to her liver, but to the mesentry. (The cancer spread there later on in her illness). She did have chemo but I have the feeling that it was too late as there was a delay before her treatment was started. She died six months after diagnosis. I do not know where (the hospital) your Dad was operated on but we were hoping to get my Mom well enough to travel so as to take her to the Cancer Treatment Center in Tulsa for an evaluation and possible treatment. The main thing to do at this point is to keep your Dad healthy by making sure he has the proper nutrition. Keep as much weight on him as possible. At the end, most cancer patients are just skin and bones and have nothing to fight the cancer and that is when they give up the fight. I don't mean to paint such a bleak picture for you but this is what happened in our case. By no means are you to give up or think there is nothing that can be done for your Dad. There are people on this board who have success stories to tell but you have to be aware of the possible down side also. As soon as possible treatment should be started as this is a very fast growing cancer. I really feel that the chemo did help my Mom some, but it was too little too late for her. Good luck to your Dad. Tell him you love him every day and keep him as pain free as you can. Carol S
