ps I don't recommend withholding info, but being guided by the person. Likewise I wouldn't tell my mom - unless she asked - that 29000 get it and 27900-28900 die each year (or whatever the exact numbers are since they seem to vary depending upon who is writing) since that would just scare her more (if possible). She knows it is very serious from the other discussions and knows what the Dr said the first day. Her first comment when the Dr told her was "I won't get to see Christi" (my daughter and her only grandchild who just turned 1 last week) grow up. We've talked to a lady who is on the Bloch cancer hotline who has had PC for 3 years and didn't have the Whipple and I try to remind her of the survivors so that she knows there is some hope, even if a very very very very very remote one...I don't want her to think I've given up on her. When we get the numbers we discuss them and what they could mean...we don't sugar coat them.
