Hi, The Dr gave my mom some of the prognosis the first day -- e.g. something about how long people generally had, but that he had people still alive on X now for 2 years. After that though he hasn't discussed it again. My wife and I have done tons of research and know the stats. About 2 weeks ago, my mom said something like "I don't feel like the Dr is telling me everything" and then she said "If he tells you anything without me there, will you let me know." I haven't spoken with him outside her presence yet and I haven't told her the statistics since she didn't ask for specifics. It is a really tough road to walk on though, I don't want to be dishonest. So, whenever I talk to her I'll try to balance it -- for example, I say something about that on X treatment they had twenty people and that 2 or 3 are alive and have shrunken tumors after 1 year (or whatever) and tend to emphasize the positive there. Whenever she brings up something like "what will happen to my cats" I say that she shouldn't worry and that if it does come to that they'll be OK. I try to let her guide me as to what to say -- not give her false hope by any means, but keep her generally positive when possible. We talk about her counts and what is good/not good and track them. Ditto for scans. It is tough to know what to do...best of luck.
