My husband wanted to know everything. After his surgery (which was supposed to be a Whipple but wasn't) the surgeon said not to tell him anything until the next day. Later when the surgeon went to see him, as groggy as he was, my husband asked and of course, the surgeon answered. Months later when I had just about taken over everything, he asked if I were keeping anything from him. I wasn't--but sometimes didn't ask the questions just to prevent him from hearing any more bad news. Everyone is different so you just have to go by how well you know your dad.
