I understand your friend's depression. The stats for this type of cancer are horrible but that doesn't necessarily mean that he/she will be in the 80% that die. Push to be in the 20%.

No node involvement is a very good thing so that's a real plus. Post surgery, chemo with radiation are normally recommended. Any reason why no radiation from the doctor? It may be worth a second opinion. Your friend can send their films, reports, etc. to the docs at Johns Hopkins for a consult. JH also has a vaccine trial; check into it before the next stage of treatment. Have your friend email them about the case and they will let him/her know if there is room and if they qualify.
