I'm not a very good one to respond here. ESW's (Edward) PC was in the head of the pancreas (they told us that was a good thing) but the term Islet Cell was never mentioned. At any rate, the surgeon with the experience (believe me, we had to wait for him) performed a Whipple, took about 11 hours, and followed it up with radiation and Xeloda chemo. There are MANY drugs mentioned here that we NEVER heard of. Had I been smart enough to get on this board last year this time, I might have asked more questions. At any rate, ESW did extremely well after they solved the malnutrition problem that lasted for about three months after surgery (losing about 80 pounds) and continued to do so until about three weeks ago. Now we await the biopsy results from a tumor near the base of the spine. Honestly, I would still recommend he do the Whipple. Nine of the past twelve months have been great. And drs. say it seems unlikely that this tumor came from the PC, believe it or not.

Doesn't help, does it? Just know that I'm thinking about you and keeping you in my prayers.
