I'm so glad I made it to my mother's memorial service June 14 in VA Beach. At the beginning of the service, three songs from an Anne Murray CD were played: Let It Be, The Other Side, and Bridge Over Troubled Water. I had never heard The Other Side before, but I had seen the lyrics on the internet and liked them. At the reception afterwards, I learned from one of my mother's friends who had been in nursing school with her in the 1940's that she had graduated first in her class from Norfolk General Hospital's nursing school. She had never told her family any of this. For over 20 years before she died she had worked as a biofeedback therapist to alleviate other people's pain. It's kind of ironic that she had such a difficult time with pain her last few months. My last conversation with her on May 31 concerned the terrible pain she was having. Even though my father was initially opposed to playing the Anne Murray CD, afer the service he said he was glad that I had ignored him - he was very pleased with the church's sound system and had received a lot of positive comments about the music. My 10-year old daughter and I are going to visit him again before my daughter goes back to school in August. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful comments I got during this ordeal.
