Hi Brenda's daughter. Welcome to the board. On any other day, you probably would have received a great deal more replys-many people are upset today because of the passing of some of our boardmate's loved ones. Anyway, go to the top of this page and click on questions to ask-there is a lot of information there on what to ask the Doctor. Also, try not to despair about your Mom not being able to have the surgery. While it is true that the surgery is the only 'chance' for a cure, there are still MANY PEOPLE living longer than anticipated with a good quality of life, who either couldn't have the surgery, or who opted not to have the surgery. ( my Mom refused the surgery)- There are numerous new chemos out there today-many Doctors are combining chemos, for example: gemzar (also known as gemcitabine), with cisplatin, or gemzar with irinotecan-just to name a few. My Mom was diagnosed in August of 02-I was devastated. (still am, actually), but she is HERE. She lives alone, walks her dog, does errands, etc. She is getting chemo and so far, she is ok. While I am angry she got this disease, I am also grateful she is doing so well. There are some people out here who did not have surgery and are still with us over a year, some two. Hang in there. Come to the board often, it helps. Let us know what the oncologist says. We will be here to walk you through this. Marj
