Today at the doc's office I commented about the use of the LONG infusion time being apparently a good thing....Dr. Sometimes Attitude said that all Cisplatin use should be that long because the directions on the Cisplatin says to HYDRATE WELL before the patient gets the Cisplatin. That is why Rick gets 2 hrs of saline first before the Cisplatin & Gemzar. Then ANOTHER 2 hrs of saline. The reason for this is it hydrates the kidneys and keeps him from getting kidney failure. I attribute this meticulous administration of the drug to his being able to tolerate it so well and he's been getting it since December. 4 months now. Ca 19-9 down from 3100 to 292. Tumor not spreading. And like I said in the other post below It is entirely possible that it is disintergrating from the inside out. So get your docs to read the directions on the packages. Also his chemo nurse teaches others and she is proud to be a top notch in the know onc nurse. Glad to have her. Just trying to get an extra tip to everybody. Our first doc didn't read the Gemzar directions. Gave Rick what 16 weeks on. Then he has a massive reaction to it. Got all swelled up. Glad we moved on to folks that can read. That's all folks.
