Pancreitis can be caused by certain drugs like glucocorticoids, sulfa, chlorothiazide and azathioptine or trauma. Bilary tract disease (which can involve the gall bladder, liver etc can set it off. It can be caused by complications of peptic ulcer, mumps or hypothermia. It is an autodigestive disease in which the pancreatic enzymes start to digest pancreatic tissue. It is not uncommon and the prognosis is good if it isn't caused by alcoholism. Cancer is one of the causes but it's rare. I've got my fingers crossed for you. :)
