Hi Anne - my Jerry had very low iron in his blood also and the onc suggessted a shot. I asked if he could just take iron pills but she explained how anemia works and that the iron pills don't work after anemia is detected (and I can't tell you now how - sorry). She gave him a shot in the back of his arm to boost the blood cells. It was VERY expensive (like $700) but it did the job. Seems like it had a short name. Ask your onc. Maybe someone else knows the name. Good luck to you and your family. d
