Hi Michael, she had some immediate relief following the insertion of the external drain (and really it was immediate - imagine something like a liter of bile being stuck in your intestines, honestly that bag was full), then I think some more relief as she had the internal drain inserted on Friday. Some appetite returned very fast after the procedure, I think a few hours, and today she had both breakfast and some pizza slices. A little too early to tell though, as the drain needs a little time to unfold (it's like a spiral and will unfold to a total of approx 1/2 inch diameter inside the duct). We now think though that a lot of her nausea and lack of appetite was caused by bad pain management, so really it's hard to tell what caused her improvement, as correction in pain management and procedure were both done Friday. If your mother has some backed up bile though the relief should be pretty immediate. Sorry if I have taken too long, sometimes I am not so good in explaining. I don't always check back posts so feel free to e-mail me if you have other questions. Take care Ilsabe
