Hi Sue, yes we do get rain, it was quite amusing last night, we had our final 'Summer Times' concert in Hagley Park last night, Classical Sparks, Christchurch Symphony from 7 to 9pm (with interval) then fireworks. It was a great show, the final number being the '1812 overture' and the fireworks suited to the music starting with everything red like it was burning, fantastic, my parents were with us and mum cried she thought it so good. The downer was that it rained, that very wetting fine misty drizzle, when the fireworks were going off the high ones actually lit the low clouds, a very different effect. We looked a sight, sitting in our folding chairs with wooly hats and rugs to keep off the wet. We had started the evening with an early dinner at the Oxford in the city, we all had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, yummy, I called it the last supper as if I have the big op on Wed won't be getting a roast dinner for a while. When you visited S.I. West Coast did you go to my very favourite place, Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks) I just love that place, we took mum and dad last year and timed it so the holes were blowing, magnificent. So pleased you enjoy my adopted homeland. I wish you both well and will look forward to your messages, tell John that when I was 11 I camped in a field in Derbyshire for a week with the Girl Guides, I still remember it. Best wishes Barbara and Garry
