Dear Trenna, welcome and so sorry you have to be here. My mother has pc and also couldn't have surgery due to vein involvement. I am 36 years old and just not ready to lose my mother and like you, I was completely devastated when I learnt she was ill. First thing: even though your granddad went quickly, things have changed - treatments are better now - research this board and you will find MANY who have been around for a long time. Let me say this: you seem to have a wonderful attitude and it will take you in the right direction. My mother has been sick now for almost 18 months and yes, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. Like you, I am the researcher in the family, my sister has openly told me there are things she'd rather not know. Well, believe me, research is crucial!! I support you on the second opinion, maybe you get good care where you are, at least the fact that they use chemo combos and not a single agent sounds reassuring to me (but other people on this board with more experience are certain to jump in), but a second opinion doesn't hurt. Finally a word of advice, after these 18 months: don't burn yourself out too soon. Of course you plan on having your dad (sorry it was your dad wasn't it) around for a long long time, and you want to keep up your energy. Do your research but remember to take care of yourself. I say this because I am in a situation where I feel so alone with all the information gathering, nurse talking etc and on some days I feel like I have had no energy left for my mother. And keep coming here, this is what keeps me going. It is such an incredible resource of knowledge, kindness.....you name it. Keep us posted and keep up that fighting attitude!! Fighting is the only thing that helps here!! And never, ever give up hope - never. Take care. Ilsabe
