I'm very sorry your sister has been diagnosed with this disease. It can be such a frightening experience for all involved. Please give us more information about her if you can-age, children, etc. There are many people on this board who will help you in any way they can.
My 73 year old father was diagnosed with Stage IV PC, mets to the liver, on 9/18/02. No surgery possible due to vein involvement. He started chemotherapy with Gemzar (delay due to his bullheadness on objecting to chemo) in October. He had been on morphine short-and-long acting prior to chemo, but after only 2 treatments was able to discontinue all pain meds! After 7 treatments, his tumors had shrunk 62%, after 6 more treatments, they had shrunk 85%! He's doing great, eating, gaining weight, and feeling good. He'll typically have one 'bad', or weak feeling day after his chemo, but other than that, no adverse symptoms.
He's doing better than ever 5 1/2 months after his diagnosis, so please don't give up hope.
Sincerely, Dee in AL
