Sophia-My mom also had ascites. (onc called it malignant ascites as the fluid was filled with cancer) I was told 2 things: that the liver was producing more fluid due to the mets and also that all fluids she took in were not going thru the normal route but right to the abdomen. Like Pam's mom, she chose to continue getting drained as it was so uncomfortable for her. I don't know which is the best thing to do but I guess you need to let your dad make the choice. Mom was very weak after draining as well as dehydrated, she'd often be very loopy afterward. I fear that it is not a good sign for your dad, but I have heard of ascites going away on its own. My prayers go out to your family. This is a dreadful disease, I wish you strength. Love, Teri
