GAILH--SURVIVOR
I am a 54 year old female, 19 month survivor of adenocarcinoma of the
pancreas. I had a Whipple in March 2001, followed by chemo and radiation. I
am in a Phase III study comparing 5FU in conjunction with radiation, and
Gemzar and 5FU. I am in the Gemzar arm of the study. Although I was in the
hospital 19 days and have had some gastric complications since then, I am
alive and cancer free. My CA 19-9 was 5.1 in August. I reacted very badly to
the Gemzar and was off work for 6 months, but have now been back at work
full-time for 1 year. My maternal grandmother died of adenocarcinoma of the
pancreas in 1977 at age 80.
