This was an easy to understand explanation of pancreatitis told to me by a
registered nurse. Besides making insulin, the pancreas makes digestive
enzymes. For one reason or another, the digestive enzymes are blocked from
leaving the pancreas and caused to return to the pancreas. These digestive
enzymes then turn on the pancreas and start digesting it.
A possible connection to bile duct cancer is that a bile duct may be blocked
somewhere causing the enzymes to flow back to the pancreas. The obstruction
needs to be found. My dad's cancer was found in an upper endoscopy.
