I do not know much on the specifics, but I recently asked this question to my mothers oncologist at MD Anderson. In his opinion, the metal type was not as favorable because it is not replaceable once it is in place. I was told the life of the stint is usually not the problem, but instead the size needs to be modified over time. I had heard Boston Scientific had a longer lasting metallic type.
