MY MOTHER WAS DIAGNOSED AROUND THIS TIME LAST YEAR WITH BILE DUCT CANCER. SHE ALSO HAS 3 SMALL SPOTS ON HER LIVER WHERE IT HAS SPREAD. SHE WAS ON CHEMO FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS - DIDN'T LIKE HOW IT MADE HER FEEL AND HAS BEEN OFF NOW SINCE THE END OF JANUARY. WAS FEELING WELL UNTIL MAY - NOW EXPERIENCING ALMOST CONSTANT BACK PAIN AND INTERMITTENT PAIN AROUND LIVER/STOMACH AREA. SHE STILL HAS A VERY GOOD APPETITE BUT TIRES QUITE EASILY. HER ATTITUDE IS STILL EXCELLENT. CANNOT GET A GOOD ANSWER FROM HER DOCTOR ON PAIN SHE IS EXPERIENCING. INITIALLY THEY THOUGHT THE CANCER MAY HAVE SPREAD TO BONES, BUT SAID THAT IS VERY RARE. IS THE BILE DUCT CANCER CAUSING THE PAIN? HOSPICE COMES TO HER HOME EVERY 2 WEEKS - MOM WON'T LET THEM COME MORE OFTEN THAN THAT - BUT THEY HAVE GIVEN HER PAIN PILLS. WHAT IS 'NORMAL' PROGRESSION OF THIS CANCER AND WHAT CAN WE EXPECT. WE HAVE GIVEN UP TALKING TO THE DOCTOR - HE FEELS THAT SINCE IT IS TERMINAL AND MOM NO LONGER TAKING CHEMO - WHAT'S THE POINT? AND HOSPICE ONLY DEALS WITH DEATH NOT LIFE! WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVISE/COMMENTS. THANKS!
