My Father...77 years of age had his whipple in October of 1998...the tumor was encpasulated in the head of the pancreas with no lymph involvement. Other then the normal pains, problems, weight loss, etc. he was fortunate in that his doctor did not recommend chemo or radiation. He has had 2 surgeries for adhesions since the whipple and for a while, my Father seemed OK considering he has pc. Recently, within about the last 2 months things seem to be deteriorating...he suddenly had increased stomach pain, he had a great deal of difficulty sleeping and was complaining of back pain. He was given a cat scan that indicated the cancer may have returned but he was then given a combo PET/Cat scan that tested negative for the cancer return. HE WAS NOT GIVEN ANY BLOOD TEST! The surgeon insists that he is suffering from digestive problems but I am not sure I beleive it...my Dad is continuing to have pains...especially when he lies down...and he has no desire to eat mostly due to his fear of stomach pains. My mother phoned me tonight extremely concerned that something is wrong that the doctor is not telling us...could that be? Plus, my Dad continues to lose quite a bit of weight...he feels weak and like he is wasting away. Any thoughts from anyone? I feel a bit helpless as despite his illness he is the type of person who wants to control what is happening to him as much as possible and at the same time, he thinks his current doctor/surgeon at MSK is infallable...HELP PLEASE!
