It's a real shame is'nt it? My husband was put in the hospital in Feb. of 97 with severe abdominal pain. Diagnoises (Pancreatitis). He had a set of three stints put in the valve of the pancreas by ercp so that the enzymes would flow better. After three months of these surgeries he was getting worse instead of better. Finally the doctor decided to do a ca-19-9 which of course came back elevated. I went back to this gastro. doctor and retreived all of my husbands records. Well after reading over all his reports,I could not believe it. He wrote in all the reports starting back in March that he needed to order a ca19-9 which he actually did not do untill July. Maybe if he would have done it like he said he was in March it would not had spread. Maybe they could have operated on him. Yes I am bitter. I think every doctor should do a ca19-9 on any person who has symptoms such as back pain abdominal pain and lose of weight. I met a man awhile ago who was just diagnoised with pancreatitis, I told him to get back to his doctor and demand a ca19-9. And have one done every few months. I hope I can help someone else from going through the pain which my family and children are going through.
