John, our dad had a whipple his cancer was in the bile duct 1 cm with no lymph node involvement. Dads cancer returned to the lung. Dads oncologist offered him gemcitibine. I wish your daughter in law all the very best. It truly sucks to think you were lucky because you had a whipple and have the cancer to return. Dad didn't have the chemo and dad died shortly after his cancer returned. Keep us informed and if a problem should arise just yell and someone will answer with information that will hopefully help. Many patients do really well on the gemzar and I hope your daughter in law is one of the many. Her doctor will probably do a CA19-9 test which is a tumor marker test and after several treatments they will re do the CA19-9 and what you want to happen is the numbers to go down that usually means the treatments are working. Hugs Lillie
