Hi, I posted a message earlier but only heard from 2 people and only one was
fairly specific. I am so sorry to bother you but my dad was diagnosed with
pc stage IV, mets to the liver, in October (he had a stomach ache, that's
all). Three oncologists said that there really was nothing that would help
at this stage, but they would try Gemzar (and I have a feeling it was to keep
my dad's hopes alive). They discovered the cancer through both CT scan then
biopsy. Anyway, he developed an allergic reaction to Gemzar and his lungs
filled. He's been in the ICU for two weeks, just taken to a regular room
yesterday. They thought he developed a virus or bacterial infection because
his immune system was weakened by the chemo, but after many tests, finally
found that it was an allergic reaction. They treated him with steriods and
slowly but surely, he came around. Today, he has the ventilator and feeding
tube out, but he still can't move very much (he's very weak).
I'm trying to get anything, ANYTHING that might help him that is not Gemzar.
His oncologists are known as the best group in GR Michigan but they don't
seem to know what to do with him now!!! Therefore, I need to find out every
treatment option I can and get on with helping him in any way. So please,
any and all treatment detail that you think might help is welcome!!!!!!
Thank you for your kindness and compassion. It's nice not to feel alone.
