Luke, paralysis is one of the possible side effects, but it is not a common side effect. However, you should try to get the most experienced anesthesiologist you can find to perform the procedure. I think the effectiveness varies by person and probably by dosage given. Some people have said that their family members or friends were told it would last for a year, and others have found that it didn't really help very much. Everybody's different, so it's hard to say. I'd rely more on what the doctor tells you because that's the person who knows what they're going to use. Best of luck!
