Fifth's Dz is caused by the virus called parvo such as what dogs get immunized for each year. In humans, they are contagious before s/s (signs/symptoms) occur. The "slapped-face" appearence most children get, is from the antibody-antigen reaction to the virus. Once this occurs the child should be getting over the disease. Fifth's disease may last up to a week. Treatment is usually just for any symptoms exhibited that may need treatment.
