My husband was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer with liver mets in July 01. Our doctors told us that the chemo of choice is Gemzar and that it would only maybe give him another month or two of life. He opted to forgo chemo and travel. We went on a two month adventure in a motor home - Alaska and everything in between Michigan and Alaska. The last 3 weeks of the trip, the pain was increasing in his right side and he was losing his appetite. When we got home, we had lab work drawn. His bili was 2.7 and alk phos 500. In just two weeks his bili is now 9.2 and alk phos 700. He developed a blood clot in his leg and had a filter placed in his inferior vena cava (the vein leading to the heart to catch any broken off clots). Now we await a biliary stent on Monday. I am so praying he will feel some relief after the stent. Then we are leaving for San Diego and the Gerson Institute. Please look at their website and call for more info, but we feel there may be hope. We talked to a lady who is still alive after having stage IV pancreatic ca in 1986.
