I think Lisa's advice is very good. You'll probably receive many bills that you ultimately won't have to pay. One thing I learned while my husband was dealing with pc was that the insurance companies routinely deny some charges. Many people just accept and pay out of pocket. So any time something was denied, I called the insurance. Often that's all it took. One hospital stay was denied repeatedly and I was told they needed more info. The hospital sent everything they had. Finally the oncol called the insurance and the bill was paid immediately. My husband did sign a statement before his surgery saying he would pay anything the insurance denied. Fortunately, that turned out to be very little! On the PanCAN website, under 'patient/family resourses' are links to Center for Patient Advocacy and Patient Advocate Foundation--maybe one of these can help you out. Good luck!
