We had insurance and so far that seems to be picking up the bill for all the Drs he saw (he saw nearly a dozen different specialists during his stay there). According to my sister-in-law a Dr, the insurance company will try to get out of paying certain days and procedures etc, the hospital will fight them, but ultimately what they cannot recover they will try to get from me.
She is not sure, but feels probably the insurance will have to pay for the time he was in the ICU as that is considered critical care which they must cover 100% and I suppose fortunately therefore he was in ICU for all but 4 weeks of his hospital stay.
I know I can then enter into a fight over anything I am billed for, but I am
just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I realise it will
differ from State to State and insurance company to company, but this is my
first real dealing with the american health system and am not sure what to
expect.
