Dear Positive, In many ways you are so right. I am ecstatic that she has surpassed the initial prognosis. I try my best to be positive around her and I believe that I have succeeded. I am just scared I guess. You sound like a real trooper. It was good to hear from you. Thanks for being so tough - maybe that's what I needed. Now to answer your questions; my sister was told that there was nothing that could be done for her by three different doctors. The fourth doctor (Dr. V of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit) gave her hope. They performed a Whipple procedure and literally microwaved the cancer on her liver. The microwave of the liver was performed by a doctor from CA and had never been performed here at Karmanos. The surgery was December 8, 1997. She was hospitalized for ten days, and resumed chemotherapy approximately one month after the surgery. She is still in pain as a result of the surgery, but I am thankful to all of those that gave her this second chance. I will pray for you and keep up the positve attitude - it's inspiring. Please write again. The sister.
