I am not certain of the tenants of different religions, but something that has been very helpful to me is the St Francis Prayer . I belong to several 12 step programs and many people use the St Francis Prayer , For now, I can be of service to my mom, I can be there for her, I know that I have my own needs of what kinds of unmet needs exist in my relationship with my mom, but I have worked on acceptance of where things are today.I think that there are fewer and fewer options fo my mom. My option is being here for her, less so for my dad. But to make certain that my mom knows that I am willing to try to carry out her wishes. THe Rabbi at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in LA where I work , wrote a book with a chapter on the Art of Dying. It talks about being there to comfort. I know that it is soothing to be able to be present. You must be torn with your feelings about helping to meet the needs for your sisters, children, for yourself which are all different. I feel like some one took my world and shook it up- like one of those snow scenes. The shaking may have stopped, the snow may be falling lessbut things keep on getting shaken up and each time you have to figure it out again. My mom is sooooooooooooo uncomfortable and I don't know if she is continuing the therapy to be of comfort to us and to herself. DO any of us believe that the therapy that she is starting on Tuesday will work?Or are we going throught the motions because we just can't let go.Sincrely, Trisha
