Pancreas Cancer Web

GLEN

I'm posting this now to let all of you wonderful people know how far we have come with this tragic disease. My dear, dear father, Glen was diagnosed with and died from PC way back in the fall of 1985. He was 50 years old. Diagnosis alone took almost a month. Back then, the MRI was still fairly new and identifying cancer cells back to their source was difficult. Any treatment was mostly experimental. We had to plead for morphine because the medical community had not come to accept the critical need for pain relief - even in terminal cancer. Hospice care was a novelty. There wasn't a wonderful on-line community like this, although the local American Cancer Society provided us with as much information as they could.

We, and my father, had so many questions that this web site now answers. Even knowing that others were fighting the same battles would have been a relief and source of support.

Today, I was reading about the new breakthroughs in genetics, diagnosis and treatment and couldn't help but be hopeful that, someday, no one will have to suffer from this horrible form of cancer. If your loved one has been diagnosed with PC, hug them often, hold their hands and help them to take control of this challenge. If you have PC, be hopeful and fight to get the pain relief and answers you need.
