I wrote another message but I can't tell if it posted or not (I think it didn't) so if this is a duplicate, sorry! My mom does have pretty substantial liver mets, and the doctor thought the swelling was releated to a decline in liver functions, although it can also apparently be a result of gemzar. The galactalose took a while to work, though, so don't get discouraged if its not working right away ( I think galactolose is the same as lasix, not sure though). Another thing that helped my mom was new shoes -- we got her a pair of those boiled woolen clogs which were easy to slip her feet into. She usually wears a size 7 and we had to get her a size 10, I think, to comfortably fit. Although they may not be the most fashionable footwear out there, they were really really comfortable for her. They are indoor-outdoor too which is great. She also liked the socks that go with them. I htink you can get clogs and socks from LLBean or Eddie Bauer. Best of luck -- janet
