Years ago I worked with a physician who felt that there was a correlation between someone suffering a catastrophic event and later developing cancer. He spent alot of time talking to his patients ( before HMOs) and seemed to always find some event. Loss of a child, sudden loss of a spouse, or something that put the person on the 'edge' as he called it. His theory was emotional trauma was so severe that it affected the bodies immune system. I don't know if there was any scientific support to his theory or not, but there certainly is anecdotal. In my family, my Mom dies of lung cancer( she never got over the loss of her second husband during the war , she lost two), my husband has PC ( he says the biggest tragedy in his life was when his brother committed suicide at age 29, he obssessed over it) my aunt died of leukemis ( she lost twin daughters and never stopped talking about them), so I don't know if mental pressure would fit into this catagory or it's just life and the hand you're dealt . My goodness, sorry about being philosophical on a Sat. night. We've had a bad week.
