Lillie,I just took my mother in to the ER yesterday because her foot was swelling & red. She has an infection in the leg which they are treating with IV antibiotics. They said she will be in a couple of days because they want to treat it aggressively. She is not a diabetic but she does have a history of leg swelling. She too has bad arthiritis but is currently in no pain because the doctor increased her pain med(Oxycontin) to 100mg per day which gives her enough relief that she can now sleep in a bed. She is diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer with mets to the liver. Please have your father seen immediately if he has not already because it will be easier to treat. The doctors also tested my mom for blood clots with luckily she had none. Best of luck to you & your father.
