What kind of ulcer does she have? Is it a bed/pressure ulcer? You know, if Medicare is her insurance and the ulcer is caused by neglectful care (the nurses are not turning her regularly and treating her skin) then Medicare will refuse to pay for the entire hospital stay!

If the doctors are useless, ask to speak to the charge nurse. Ask her what you can do to help, and if there are any things that might be contributing to her confusion. Ask her what should be done about the ulcer to make sure it doesn't get worse. Sometimes nurses are the best at this stuff.
