I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer January 2015. The cancer hospital I went to started a whipple operation and found that they could not complete it. They gave me 3 to 6 months to live. Not what I or my family wanted to hear. I ended up going to John Hopkins and they did the whipple for me. I am still cancer free. As with any major surgery there is the initial post surgery discomfort, tiredness etc. Before the surgery I had to do several months of chemo and a week of sterotactic radiation and again chemo for a while after surgery. I was extremely sick with chemo. Lost 87 pounds. It took me almost 9 months to recovery from the chemo fog etc. but now that time has gone by I want to say there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 70 years old and have gone back to my daily life, swim and exercise and the only negative thing I can attribute to my operation is some digestive problems once in awhile. I still have to take some creon with my major meals. As I said I was miserable during chemo and wondered if it was worth it but now with 2 years of feeling good I just want to say be positive. Things can get very much better.
