Are you on insulin and metformin?

My Mom was on both and they strongly told her NOT to follow a strict carb-counting diabetic diet. The most important thing is gaining weight, high protein and good nutritious diet. This is very very important for healing after surgery and for tolerating treatment. For that reason, they told her to eat as she could tolerate, emphasizing calories and nutrition, and altering her insulin dose to match her needs.

Remember, your diabetes is not traditional diabetes, and your situation is very different than a traditional diabetic for healing. If you are not getting good advice on diet and diabetes management I strongly recommend seeing an endocrinologist, ideally one that the cancer center recommends or the nutritionist recommends.
