It's nice to support your friends - call and send cards and notes that lets them know you are thinking of them. Don't always ask about the chemo or treatment, though. Sometimes they don't want to answer the same old questions so pick something that you enjoy with them to chat about.

Think of a gift card to a movie or something else that they might enjoy. Gifts of food can be hard but ask. When the weather is better, show up and mow their lawn or other gardening tasks, if you can. Offer to spend a couple hours with patient so the care giver can have a little time away from the house and the patient.
