Sorry to hear about your mom. Not sure if this is an option but have they tried lidocaine mouth rinse. It would numb her mouth long enough for her to eat but I am not sure if her taste would be altered. Essentially the epithelium is sloughing off because of the chemo as you mentioned but I wonder if giving her mouth a short rest by having a temporary feeding tube be an option. I know that sounds drastic but it just might give her body enough time to heal. Not sure what else to recommend. It sounds awful. I hope she finds a resolution soon. Good luck and lots of prayers.
