Similar story. I am 3 years post whipple and live with chronic diarrhea for 2
1/2 years now. nothing provides relief except steroids but that has major
side effects. Here's a list of things that I have tried. Didn't work for me
but may for him.
Prebiotic drink or tabs
Probiotic drink, foods, tabs
Antibiotic ciprofloxacin, xifaxin
Steroids prednisone, budesonide
Loperamide- immodium multiple times a day will slow it down. Ask dr for
prescription so insurance will cover it. I take 8 a day.
Cholestyramine just started 2 weeks ago but no real relief yet
Going to start tincture of opium. It's a narcotic which causes constipation.
Creole which helps digest the food.
He needs a good GI and endocrinologist. I'm shocked that he can eat a lot. I
can only eat small meals. Sounds like his diet and timing of eating will have
to change for the diarrhea and better blood sugar control.
He needs to really take good vitamins, chewable or liquid will absorb better.
Divide the dose 2-3x a day for better absorption.
I lost 20+ pounds. It took two years to gain 10 pounds. I've given up trying
to gain just trying to maintain what I have.
Lots to deal with. Good luck. Hope this helps.
