Hi Nita. I would not recommend surgery for a 79 year old whose cyst is non malignant or malignant for that matter. I was in excellent physical condition prior to surgery and 30 years younger and had and still am recovering from post surgical issues 2 years out. To reach 79 years is amazing. I would recommend watching with imaging MRI (good for soft tissue) as the other person said but more frequently, maybe once a year.

Good Lord, go out enjoy what you can, be as active as you can. You made it this far without surgery, why risk your life for some thing that has no guarantees and may kill you before your time. You're 79 years old. How fortunate, see what else life has for you besides surgery and doctor appointments.
