I also had concerns for long term use of PPI's. I found that OTC Famotadine 20mg taken twice daily works just as well for me as the PPI's (I was taking Nexium) without the long term issues. I have been taking Famotidine for several years, it works great for me. I did find it necessary to take something for acid stomach/reflux control after surgery, so your Mom will likely also need to take something as well. Whipple surgery 2002.
