The feeling after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer was very terrifying for me so I can truly understand how your BIL is feeling. I don't think that most of us even know anything about this horrible disease, and all of a sudden there are all of these decisions to make quickly about a life or death matter involving a team of doctors; not just a general practioner, and it is a condition that is not taken care of with one or two visits to the doctor, this can last for weeks. That is the reality of this disease, and that is where the support of the family is so VERY important. If members of the family can be designated for different chores like possibly driving patient to chemo therapy if needed, help with preparing meals, someone who can, along with the patient, be able to communicate to the medical team if there is a problem, and moral support, knowing there are people who cares about what you are going through. I am a PC survivor, and I know I would never have been able to make it without my family support group. Really, when it comes right down to it, what is more important than family?
