I am in New Orleans and the largest teaching hospital just recently opened after the 2005 hurricane and is going thru it's growing pains. I was diagnosed at Ochsner medical center and they told me they could do the surgery but their was no good feeling when I asked how often they did this surgery and the morbidity as well as the mortality rate. They just said their results matched those of the larger cancer centers like Hopkins, MSK, Pittsburg, etc. The other thing is they have no Pancreatic specialty center, rather oncologic surgeons. Since this is such a big step and I don't have cancer I'm trying to give myself the best chance of going in as confident as possible and emerging as intact as possible.
