Hi, My aunt just finished chemo and chemoradiation treatments for an inoperable mass at the head of the pancreas and the Dr. told her on Tuesday that she is cancer free because the ct scan shows the tumor is gone. The Dr said there is some injury to the liver and made an appointment for her to see a liver specialist next week. Not even 12 hours later my aunt began to throw up and continued to throw up for 12 more hours until she went to the ER. In the ER they found that her potassium was extremely low and started a potassium infusion. They admitted her and they are saying she has colitis and her potassium has went up after the infusion but has now gone back down. She also has fluid retention that she took diuretics for and they are going to remove that fluid on Monday or tuesday and test it. She has a fever on top of all of this. Has anyone experienced any of this? And how can a Dr. say she is cancer free just because the tumor is gone? And does chemo/radiation cause injury to the liver? I feel so terrible for her especially since she was given such joyous news and within 12 hours things took such a turn for the worst.
