My husband was near the end when he developed ascites. Draining it was like a miracle for him but it lasted just a few days before it built back up again. They warned us not to do it again so soon because of the loss of protein, etc. He made the choice to do it and died that night. Still no regrets because he was beyond miserable. Others here have had permanent drains put in and did much better, so our case was certainly not THE case. I wish your mom the very best in getting relief and to have more good days. It's a tough situation for both of you to be in.
