Ascites- what does this mean was posted 05/12/2016 11:35 pm by KW

I have read posts on this board and others that mention ascites as being a very bad symptom as it means severe progression of disease. I have also read about ascites in other circumstances and was just wondering what it may mean now that my dad was found to have fluid in his abdomen. We had no idea it was there until it was discovered during an attempted liver biopsy. They drained 1.2 liters of fluid and seemed hopeful that this would relieve many of his symptoms of nausea, loss of appetite, etc.

So what could this mean? Anyone had a similar situation? Does ascites return?

Thank you.
