In the past Palliative Care was associated only with Hospice, and for some people has a negative/giving up connotation. That has changed. Palliative Care is a growing area of medicine that they are now trying to combine much earlier with treatment for cancer and other chronic diseases that can affect quality of life. Studies have been done that show that you LIVE LONGER when you have Palliative Care doctors helping you with your pain, sleep, appetite, mood, energy and more. Those are just about the most important symptoms that deserve treatment even more than the cancer does.

So well done in getting your Mom hooked in. Make sure she knows that Palliative Care is not for giving up. It is for living as long as possible feeling as good as possible.

To be honest, we all could use a Palliative Care doctor! And I wish every person with PC had one.
