Definitely I have noticed this.... The ups and downs. Yes, it can be very hard to know when this is something new and concerning, and when it is the 'ups and downs'.

So you have your list of things to try. Take the pain meds soon - hit it hard and early. Any stomach symptoms/pain etc..., get a Reglan in. Diarrhea? Keep sipping fluids all day, as dehydration will make all pain/symptoms worse, and take a diarrhea medicine if the doctor recommends this.

I literally would keep a list of all the things to try when symptoms started. Because I found myself getting all stressed when my Mom was so uncomfortable. And sometimes the things that help are simple random things.... Laying in a favorite lazy-boy chair.... a heating pad on the stomach.... favorite music playing.... a favorite TV show that can distract you....

And sometimes, you take more pain medicine so you can just sleep.

Always ask yourself... is today different? Is the diarrhea/pain quality new or worse? If so, then call the doctor's office/nurse. Calls are often helpful and reassuring.
